I have a confession to make. I am deeply in love with the Eiffel Tower and I just can't get enough of it. Yes, I realize how much of a tourist that statement makes me sound but I can't help it. I've been to Paris four times now and I often find that it's one of my first stops. I get a rush of excitement when I see it rising above the city. I love it in the morning, noon, and night. I adore it in the evening the most when it sparkles and glimmers - absolutely magical. Once it starts sparkling at the top of the hour for a few minutes during the evening, there are always people around who gasp and adore in its brilliance. I have heard more than one French person exclaim, "Ooh la la!", which to someone who is not French is fantastic! Its intricate details, its curves, its romantic design....it's no wonder it has become a worldwide symbol for Paris. There is something that draws people to it and can gaze at it for ages.
I hadn't ever seen it just after sunrise in the early morning hours, so I made it my mission this time to do that. I went early on a Monday morning before the crowds had appeared and when the spring sunlight was hazy and glowing. This is my ode to the Eiffel Tower through photos and I hope you like it!
Weekends are an especially great time to daydream and indulge your wanderlust - especially when it's a warm spring day like it is in Toronto today.
What is your dream destination? Is there a place high on your list to visit 'someday'? I've got many, but one that has been top of my list for the past couple of years has been the Caudalie Spa and Hotel located in Bordeaux, France: Les Sources de Caudalie. It is located in the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafittee, and is under half an hour journey from the centre of Bordeaux. There are so many treatments and rituals to pick from - how do you begin to choose?? I want them all! I love that the treatments are done in an environment that reflects the surroundings and focuses on serenity, peace and well-being - and not in a busy, sterile environment. I can just feel the goodness emanating from the website.
The wine-growing region of France is a region that I have wanted to visit for a long time. When I picture this beautiful region and this hotel/spa in particular, I image taking a deep breath of fresh air, a feeling of calm washing over me, being warmed by the southern French sun, surrounded by stunning scenery, and enjoying relaxing spa treatments.
Caudalie has become my favourite brand of skincare products over the past few years as well, produced from this region. They are of such a high quality, smell divine, and are free from artificial ingredients - you really feel like you are doing your skin a favour when you apply them. I have noticed a real difference since using them and I am a loyal follower! The logical next step for me is to visit the heart of production... right?? That's what I tell myself anyways.
This is my current wanderlust destination. I would love to hear yours!
This past weekend, Nepal suffered a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake near its capital of Kathmandu. This beautiful and fascinating country is also one of the poorest in Asia, which has unfortunately increased the impact this disaster has had with thousands of people being killed, injured, and left homeless due to being more vulnerable. Countless historical and World Heritage sites have also been damaged and destroyed. Many people in Nepal are also living in rural areas and have been cut off from desperately needed aid. There are also still hundreds of people missing and stranded on Mount Everest. The government institutions and administrations are also severely hampered from assisting its citizens in this time of need.
If you can help, there are many great international aid organizations that you can support to help get desperately need supplies and assistance to the women, men and children affected in Nepal. If you are in Canada, here are some trusted organizations to consider donating to:
- Canadian Red Cross. You can text REDCROSS to 45678 to donate $10 to this effort.
- UNICEF Canada is working quickly to support the thousands of children who have been injured, made homeless and/or separated from their families in this tragedy.
Other Organizations To Consider:
One of my favourite things about travelling is getting to meet new people. Last Saturday, I met up with a terrific group of fellow bloggers in Paris for brunch after the lovely Grace from Besotted Grace brought us together via our Instagram connections. For me, social media, and Instagram in particular, has made the world an even smaller place, bringing like-minded people together from all over the world through sharing similar interests and slices of our lives. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the great people that I follow in person.
We met at a charming little restaurant called 'Treize - A Baker's Dozen', which is tucked away in a little courtyard just off Rue Saint-Pere in Saint-Germain. It was a lovely, cozy place to hang out while staying out of the rain as a group of six of us. We spent the morning chatting about travel, Paris, our experiences living abroad, and blogging, followed by a stroll around Saint-Germain. It was great to be able to connect with these inspiring women who I share common experiences with. Check out their beautiful stories when you get a chance:

Paris truly is always a good idea. I mean, how could it not be? Paris is such a magical city - especially in the springtime. In the springtime in Paris, there is a lightness and energy in the air. The air is getting warmer, the cherry blossoms are blooming, more people are out and about, and the daylight lasts longer each day. it's not to not be drawn in to to the magic of this city.
I'm in Paris now for a five days and I will be sure to share my adventures! What are some of your favourite things to do and see in Paris?? I would love to hear from you.
I'm so pleased to say that Fathom Way To Go, a brilliant site for travel inspiration, guides, stories and tools, has featured one of my photos on their Instagram Page (@fathomwaytogo) as part of their #FathomInstaTrip seies focusing on a peek inside local life in Europe.
The photo that they selected (below) was during a recent trip I took to Paros. I was walking through the beautiful village of Lefkes, down a path completely deserted off people in the hot sunshine when this little cat relaxing in the shade on a windowsill caught my eye. She didn't seem bothered by my presence (probably due to the heat!) so I grabbed a quick snap to capture the moment.
Check Fathom out for your next trip!
Called 'Garments for Good', J Crew has created the cutest t-shirts and sweaters to support the great work of the DSWT, which is dedicated to rescuing and protecting elephants and rhinos who have been orphaned in East Africa from ivory poaching and from extinction. The Trust has worked hard, successfully rescuing, raising and rehabilitating over 160 orphaned elephants to then reintegrate back into the wild. J Crew commissioned Hugo Guinness to create these t-shirts and sweaters, with 100% of the net proceeds being donated to the DSWT. The elephant featured on the clothing is Edie, who was a rescued elephant by the DSWT when she was just four months old. There are lots of different styles and colours for women, men and kids so go check it out!
